About the role#
The Combat and Weapons Systems (CWS) Directorate develops non-propulsion electronic systems for United States Navy nuclear submarines. Interns work alongside senior engineers on projects involving sonar, ship control, payload launch control, and tactical software. This program provides practical experience in the defense industry.
What you'll do#
Interns assist with various engineering tasks under the guidance of staff. Responsibilities include:
- Developing drawings and disclosures
- Creating and executing test procedures
- Developing and deploying software
- Implementing network systems
- Developing and qualifying components and systems
- Installing and testing systems on board ships
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in a full-time Bachelor or Master of Science program in Electrical, Computer, Mechanical, Industrial, Biomedical, or Aerospace Engineering, or Computer Science
- Completion of at least your Freshman year before the start of the internship
- Ability to work 40 hours per week for at least eight consecutive weeks between May 2027 and September 2027
- US citizenship and the ability to pass a medically supervised drug screen and background check
- Age 18 or older
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office
- Ability to work independently and within a team
