About the role#
Gecko Robotics is seeking an Embedded Software Engineering Intern to join the RoboSPLAT team in Pittsburgh for Summer 2027. This is a full-time, onsite position. You will work on a defined project to improve system integration, diagnostics, testing, or development workflows for our robotic and ultrasonic testing systems. You will work alongside experienced engineers to understand how software behaves on hardware.
What you'll do#
- Write C/C++ and Python software for a defined embedded project.
- Build or improve tooling, diagnostics, and tests to simplify how we deploy software to robot hardware.
- Integrate services and hardware-facing interfaces.
- Investigate system behavior and document your findings.
- Use version control and code review to produce maintainable code.
- Collaborate with the RoboSPLAT team to communicate progress and tradeoffs.
- Deliver a final project demonstration and handoff.
What you'll need#
- Current pursuit of a bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, electrical engineering, or a related discipline.
- Expected graduation date between December 2027 and May 2028.
- Foundational programming experience in C/C++ and Python, including object-oriented programming.
- Familiarity with Git or similar version control systems.
- Understanding of basic computer networking.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to document technical work and explain tradeoffs.
- Ability to independently close knowledge gaps and learn from feedback.
- Preferred: Experience with ROS 2, embedded Linux, Yocto Project, NVIDIA Jetson Orin, GCP, Electron, React, or TypeScript.
- Preferred: Exposure to embedded communication protocols, microcontrollers, or real-time operating systems.
- Preferred: Ability to use lab equipment like oscilloscopes, multimeters, and programmable power supplies.
Location & details#
- This internship is based in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
- You must be able to work onsite, Monday through Friday, for the full Summer 2027 term.
- This is a full-time, paid position.
