About the role#
As a Construction Inspection Intern, you will work on highway, roundabout, traffic signal, and bridge projects. You will follow technical instructions and learn inspection methods from experienced team members. This role involves working on small projects or specific parts of larger ones as part of an inspection team.
What you'll do#
- Locate points on the worksite using project drawings.
- Identify basic construction operations and find relevant information in standards, specifications, and plans.
- Perform math computations for areas and volumes of simple shapes.
- Measure and compare values against project plans.
- Identify common tools and equipment used for testing and measuring.
- Use personal protective equipment correctly.
- Recognize work zone traffic control components.
- Write accurate reports of daily operations.
What you'll need#
- Completion of at least one year in an ABET or EAC accredited associate degree program in Civil Engineering or Civil Engineering Technology.
- Alternatively, an approved equivalent education including eight credit hours in Math and eleven credit hours in Civil Technology.
- Field experience or successful completion of NICET Level I testing and requirements.
- Previous employment by NYSDOT as a title ET or TCI is preferred.

- Compensation: $28 to $30 per hour, based on experience and location.
