About the role#
The Teaching Assistant for CS105: Network Communication and Security Fundamentals supports the course instructor and students preparing for the CompTIA Security+ certification exam. This role focuses on exam readiness, tutoring, and simplifying cybersecurity concepts to help students build confidence.
What you'll do#
- Meet with students one-on-one or in small groups to provide support for CompTIA Security+ exam preparation.
- Assist the instructor in creating practice test questions.
- Supervise students during practice tests and review their answers.
- Meet with the course instructor for 30 minutes each week.
- Communicate with students regarding their progress and upcoming sessions.
- Coordinate and schedule tutoring appointments.
- Share contact information with students to manage session scheduling.
- Wait at least 15 minutes for students to arrive for scheduled appointments.
- Explain and break down complex cybersecurity concepts.
- Complete and submit weekly timesheets.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment at Franklin Cummings Tech.
- Completion of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and demonstrated financial need.
- Enrollment in enough credit hours to qualify for the Federal work-study program.
- A cumulative GPA of 2.0 or above.
- A passing score on the CompTIA Security+ exam.
- Ability to work at least 2 days a week between 9am and 3pm.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficiency with MS Word, Excel, and common office tools.
- Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
- A reliable, detail-oriented, and organized approach.
- A positive, professional demeanor.
