This 8-month Engineering Co-op position offers an opportunity to work within the Electric branch of FortisBC. You will gain exposure to the daily operations and engineering processes involved in maintaining the province’s energy infrastructure. This role is based in Kelowna and requires on-site attendance.
What you'll do#
- Participate in the design and maintenance of overhead transmission lines.
- Assist transmission engineers in preparing design documents and construction packages.
- Draft transmission design and standard drawings.
- Conduct site visits to inspect construction work, gather design data, and gain a practical understanding of Transmission and Distribution systems.
- Analyze transmission line condition assessment data and produce detailed reports.
- Utilize PLSCADD design software for transmission line analysis and design.
- Maintain transmission line records and manage the filing of as-built data from completed projects.
- Provide technical support while collaborating with the Operations and Standards groups.
- Research new utility products, industry practices, and network with other utilities.
What you'll need#
- Currently enrolled as an Electrical Engineering student, with preference for third or fourth-year standing.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, as well as Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
- A valid driver’s license and a current driver’s abstract.
- Strong interest in the Electrical Utility industry.
- Competent public speaking skills.
