Nurse Technician (RN Student)- Oncology

About the role#

The Nurse Technician (RN Student) provides basic patient care and nonprofessional services to support the comfort and needs of patients in the Med Surg Oncology unit. Working under the close supervision of a Registered Nurse, you will assist with activities of daily living and perform tasks consistent with your current level of nursing education and verified competencies. This role relies on established guidelines to ensure the delivery of high-quality patient care.

What you'll do#

• Assist in patient admission, discharge, and transfer processes.
• Measure, collect, and document patient data, such as vital signs, weight, and O2 saturation, reporting any changes or symptoms to the Registered Nurse.
• Help patients with activities of daily living, including personal hygiene, meals, elimination, and linen changes.
• Assist with patient transport, mobility needs, and physician examinations or treatments.
• Collect and transport patient specimens to the lab.
• Retrieve medications from the pharmacy or pneumatic tube system for delivery to nursing staff.
• Maintain clean and orderly patient rooms and nursing stations.
• Perform clinical procedures under the direction of a Registered Nurse, consistent with your nursing program standards.
• Observe and report behavioral or psychological changes in patients.

What you'll need#

• Current enrollment as a student nurse in good standing.
• For RN students: Must be in the Junior or Senior year of an accredited program and have completed at least two clinical rotations, including Med/Surg.
• For LPN students: Must have completed at least the first semester or term of an accredited program.
• Completion of basic patient skills training within your nursing program.
• Valid BLS Certification.
• Strong communication, customer service, and computer skills.
• Working knowledge of medical terminology.
