About the role#
FieldAI is looking for PhD students to join our research team in Boston. This role focuses on humanoid manipulation and advancing embodied intelligence. You will work at the intersection of robotics research and applied engineering, with the goal of publishing your work in a leading journal or conference.
What you'll do#
- Design, implement, and evaluate manipulation strategies for humanoid robots across diverse tasks.
- Explore loco-manipulation problems that integrate perception, planning, and control.
- Develop systems that aim for super-human dexterity, moving beyond current teleoperation limits.
- Support data collection pipelines for robotics foundation models and work with embodiment-agnostic representations.
- Collaborate with researchers to integrate manipulation data into scalable learning frameworks.
- Partner with teleoperators and field teams to refine interfaces and improve outcomes.
- Engage with mechanical and electrical engineers on hardware integration and system bring-up.
- Present your work at robotics conferences and contribute to academic publications.
What you'll need#
- Current PhD student in Robotics, Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, AI/ML, or a related field.
- Research experience in robotic manipulation, loco-manipulation, or related domains.
- Strong foundation in robot kinematics, dynamics, and control.
- Proficiency in Python or C++ and experience with robotics or ML tooling.
- Experience designing experiments and evaluating results on robotic systems in simulation or on hardware.
- Publications in leading robotics journals or conferences.
- Curiosity, initiative, and a strong interest in real-world robotics.
- Preferred: Prior experience with humanoid robots or dexterous hands, background in learning-based manipulation (imitation or reinforcement learning), hands-on hardware experience, and familiarity with ROS or ROS 2.
