About the role#
We are looking for a PhD student to join our research team in Boston for a Winter 2027 internship. You will focus on humanoid manipulation, working at the intersection of robotics research and applied engineering. Your work will support our autonomy and robot learning efforts with the goal of publishing a paper in a leading robotics conference or journal.
What you'll do#
- Design, implement, and evaluate manipulation strategies for humanoid robots across diverse tasks.
- Explore loco-manipulation problems that integrate perception, planning, and control.
- Develop systems that aim for super-human dexterity, outperforming human teleoperation.
- Support data collection pipelines for training robotics foundation models.
- Work with embodiment-agnostic representations to enable transfer across robot platforms.
- Collaborate with researchers to integrate manipulation data into scalable learning frameworks.
- Partner with teleoperators and field teams to refine interfaces and improve manipulation outcomes.
- Engage with mechanical and electrical engineers on hardware integration and system bring-up.
- Present your work at robotics conferences and collaborate with internal and external researchers.
What you'll need#
- Current PhD student in Robotics, Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, AI/ML, or a related field.
- Research experience in robotic manipulation, loco-manipulation, or related domains.
- Strong foundation in robot kinematics, dynamics, and control.
- Proficiency in Python or C++ with experience using robotics or ML tooling.
- Experience designing experiments and evaluating results on robotic systems in simulation or hardware.
- Curiosity, initiative, and a strong interest in embodied intelligence.
- Publications in leading robotics journals or conferences such as ICRA, IROS, CORL, RA-L, or T-RO.
- Bonus points for experience with humanoid robots, dexterous hands, learning-based manipulation, or ROS/ROS 2.

- This is a full-time, paid, on-site internship located in Boston, Massachusetts.
