    About the role#

    As a Research and Development Co-Op, you will investigate a range of chemistry and engineering disciplines. We focus on chemical processing, biosystems, and materials engineering. You will work on projects from the initial research phase through to engineering scale-up and final implementation. This role involves evaluating product viability, economic justification, and process design.

    What you'll do#

    • Perform research experiments and apply critical thinking to short and long term analysis.
    • Design and build scale models for lab research and process improvements.
    • Collect and analyze scientific data using mathematical or statistical methods.
    • Operate laboratory equipment and conduct tests on components under operational conditions.
    • Modify equipment to meet design specifications and interpret engineering drawings or schematics.
    • Prepare technical reports and present findings to recommend further action.
    • Assist engineers in building and testing prototypes.
    • Provide technical support to chemists and engineers while training operations staff on new processes.
    • Maintain a clean, safe work environment and follow all safety protocols when handling chemicals.
    • Communicate with team members to track progress and discuss project changes.

    What you'll need#

    • Current status as a junior or senior in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Biological Systems Engineering, or Biology.
    • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
    • Preferred experience with organic chemistry and wet chemistry.
    • Preferred experience with analytical equipment like Gas or liquid Chromatographs and spectrophotometric instruments.

    • This position is located in Des Moines, Iowa.
    • The role is on-site and full-time.
    • This is a paid position with a rolling term.
