About the role#
Family Pet Clinic offers a structured externship program for veterinary students. This program provides practical experience in a small animal practice to support your clinical preparation. You will work alongside our veterinary team to gain hands-on experience and meet the requirements of your college curriculum. The program is flexible, with rotations typically lasting two to three weeks, though they can range from two to eight weeks. You will be assigned a mentor who provides instruction and a final written evaluation of your performance.
What you'll do#
Under the supervision of a mentor doctor, you will participate in daily patient care. Your responsibilities include:
- Gathering patient histories.
- Performing physical examinations.
- Developing diagnostic and therapeutic plans.
- Scrubbing in to surgery.
- Assisting in the management of medical cases.
- Providing wellness care.
- Developing client communication skills.
- Polishing technical skills.
- Producing medical records, specifically SOAPs.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in an accredited DVM program.
- Authorization to work in the United States.
- Current professional liability insurance.
- A professional demeanor and adherence to practice standards.
Location & details#
This is a paid, on-site, full-time externship. You will receive a stipend of $250 per week. Rotations are available at our locations in Southampton, Feasterville, and Horsham, Pennsylvania. Your schedule will include a mix of days, evenings, and weekends.
