About the role#
This externship program provides practical experience in a small animal practice. You will work under the supervision of a mentor doctor to gain hands-on experience that complements your clinical education. The program is flexible, with rotations typically lasting two to three weeks, though they can range from two to eight weeks depending on your curriculum. Your schedule will include a mix of days, evenings, and weekends.
What you'll do#
- Gather patient histories and perform physical examinations.
- Develop diagnostic and therapeutic plans for patients.
- Assist in the management of medical cases and provide wellness care.
- Scrub in to surgery and practice technical skills.
- Develop client communication skills and produce medical records.
- Work alongside the veterinary team to practice problem-solving and communication skills.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in an accredited DVM program.
- Authorization to work in the United States.
- Proof of professional liability insurance.
- A professional approach to patient care and team interaction.
