About the role#
Fairview Heights Animal Clinic and Animal Hospital of O'Fallon offer a clinical experience for students currently enrolled in a DVM program. This program provides hands-on exposure to a small animal practice, allowing you to work alongside our veterinary team. You will be assigned a mentor to help meet your specific learning goals or the objectives defined by your college. At the end of your rotation, your mentor will provide a written evaluation of your performance.
What you'll do#
Under the supervision of a mentor doctor, you will participate in the daily operations of our practice. Your responsibilities include:
- Gathering patient histories and performing physical examinations.
- Developing diagnostic and therapeutic plans.
- Scrubbing in to surgery.
- Assisting in the management of medical cases.
- Providing wellness care.
- Developing client communication skills.
- Producing medical records, specifically SOAPs.
- Polishing your technical skills.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in an accredited DVM program.
- Authorization to work in the United States.
- Proof of professional liability insurance.
- Familiarity with the Veterinary Practice Act regarding the scope of duties and required supervision.
Location & details#
- Location: Fairview Heights, Illinois.
- Modality: On-site.
- Term: Rolling, with rotations typically lasting two to three weeks (flexible from two to eight weeks).
- Schedule: Includes days, evenings, and weekends.
- Compensation: A stipend of $250 per week is provided.
