About the role#
Fairview Heights Animal Clinic and Animal Hospital of O'Fallon offer an externship program for veterinary students. This program provides practical experience in a small animal practice to help prepare you for clinical work after graduation. You will work alongside our veterinary team under the supervision of a mentor doctor to meet your specific educational goals.
What you'll do#
Externs participate in daily patient care activities. Your responsibilities include:
- Gathering patient histories
- Performing physical examinations
- Developing diagnostic and therapeutic plans
- Scrubbing in to surgery
- Assisting in the management of medical cases
- Providing wellness care
- Developing client communication skills
- Polishing technical skills
- Producing medical records (SOAPs)
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in an accredited DVM program
- Authorization to work in the United States
- Current professional liability insurance (AVMA PLIT)

- Location: O'Fallon, Illinois
- Modality: On-site
- Duration: Flexible, ranging from two to eight weeks
- Schedule: Includes days, evenings, and weekends
- Compensation: A stipend of $250 per week is provided
