About the role#
As an R&D Laboratory Intern at our Indianapolis headquarters, you will contribute directly to our Research and Breakthrough Innovation and Technical Development teams. You will own an innovative project and work alongside scientists and engineers to support new and existing animal health products. Interns may be placed in teams focusing on synthetic technical development, biopharma technical development, or early research antibody discovery.
What you'll do#
- Design and execute hands-on experiments in an R&D laboratory, including synthetic chemistry, formulation development, or bioprocess development.
- Prepare solutions, reagents, media, and test articles while operating relevant instrumentation.
- Analyze and interpret experimental data, summarize findings, and propose next steps with your supervisor and project team.
- Perform independent laboratory work, including troubleshooting and optimizing experimental procedures.
- Provide recommendations on experimental design, instrumentation, or process improvements.
- Rigorously document experimental plans, procedures, and results in laboratory notebooks.
- Participate in regular check-ins and present your final project results in an oral presentation to colleagues.
What you'll need#
- Currently enrolled in a STEM field such as chemistry, biology, biochemistry, chemical engineering, pharmaceutical science, molecular biology, microbiology, or biomedical engineering.
- Pursuing a Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD degree.
- Must be returning to a degree-seeking program for the fall semester following the internship.
- Experience with hands-on laboratory work gained through independent research, teaching labs, or prior internships.
- Comfort working at the bench, including pipetting, solution preparation, aseptic technique, and following written protocols.
- Basic proficiency with Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint for data organization and presentation.
- Ability to work effectively in team environments and communicate clearly with both technical and non-technical colleagues.
- Scientific curiosity, strong learning agility, and demonstrated critical thinking skills.
