About the role#
As a Production Intern, you will gain hands-on experience in commercial pork production. You will work with the team to learn daily practices and support farm operations. The role includes mentorship, training, and an individualized project to help you understand the industry. This is a paid, full-time position for Summer 2027.
What you'll do#
- Provide daily care, observation, and handling of pigs.
- Support breeding, gestation, and farrowing activities.
- Assist with gilt selection and development.
- Manage piglet care and wean-finish production tasks.
- Monitor animal health, nutrition, and welfare practices.
- Participate in farm and animal welfare audits.
- Gain exposure to producer relations and other business departments.
- Complete an individualized project.
- Engage in one-on-one mentoring and networking with industry professionals.
- Follow all safety, biosecurity, animal welfare, and confidentiality expectations.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing a degree in animal science, agriculture, veterinary technology, agribusiness, or a related field.
- A clear interest in a career within the pork production industry.
- Willingness to work in a livestock-production environment and follow strict biosecurity procedures.
- Ability to work independently and learn quickly.
- Effective communication skills for working with team members.
- Reliable transportation.
- Flexibility to work a schedule that may include early mornings, weekends, and travel between company locations.
