About the role#
Discovery Land Company is hiring Culinary Interns and Trainees for the summer season at The Hills and Dune Deck Beach Club in Westhampton Beach, New York. This is a full-time, paid position running from May 1 to October 1, 2027. You will work on-site as part of the culinary team to prepare food and maintain kitchen standards for our members and guests.
What you'll do#
- Ensure all dishes are made to the specifications set by the Executive Chef or Culinary Director.
- Assist with food preparation, including chopping vegetables, butchering meat, and preparing sauces.
- Maintain kitchen cleanliness throughout the day by sweeping, cleaning counters, and managing garbage disposal.
- Perform daily stocking and re-stocking of kitchen items and raw ingredients.
- Monitor expiration dates of perishable items and inspect ingredients before use.
- Follow standard recipes to ensure consistent quality across all food items.
- Report any equipment maintenance or safety concerns to leadership.
- Attend required department meetings and training sessions.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in an accredited Culinary or Hospitality program.
- At least six months of related experience in the back of the house of a foodservice outlet.
- Current ServSafe certification.
- Knowledge of health and safety regulations.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Capacity to stand, walk, and move for shifts longer than eight hours.
- Ability to lift and carry items weighing more than 50 pounds.
- Proficiency in English.
