About the role#
The Culinary Extern role is based at the Dune Deck Beach Club in Westhampton Beach, New York. This is a full-time, paid position for the Summer 2027 term, running from April through September. You will work across various kitchen stations to support the culinary team and contribute to the member experience.
What you'll do#
- Ensure all dishes are prepared to exact specifications.
- Assist with food preparation tasks, such as chopping vegetables, butchering meat, and making sauces.
- Maintain kitchen cleanliness throughout the day, including sweeping, cleaning surfaces, and managing waste.
- Stock and restock kitchen items and raw ingredients as needed.
- Monitor perishable items for expiration and inspect all ingredients before use.
- Maintain kitchen equipment and report any safety or maintenance concerns to leadership.
- Follow all government, safety, health, and security standards.
- Respond to guest needs with a sense of urgency.
- Attend required department meetings and training sessions.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in an accredited Culinary or Hospitality program at a college or university affiliated with Discovery Land Co.
- At least six months of back of house experience in a foodservice outlet.
- Current ServSafe certification and knowledge of health and safety regulations.
- Ability to stay calm and focused during busy periods.
- Strong attention to detail and a professional demeanor.
- Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English.
- Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Ability to work shifts longer than eight hours.
