About the role#
As a Pharmacy Intern, you will apply your pharmacy school education to real-world practice. You will work under the direction of a preceptor to complete a comprehensive training roadmap, gaining experience in store, district, and regional operations. This role focuses on supporting pharmacy teams while developing the skills necessary for a future Pharmacist role.
What you'll do#
- Support pharmacy operations by following Standard Operating Procedures and workflow protocols.
- Assist with prescription fulfillment, including production, pick-up, drive-thru, and drop-off tasks.
- Contribute to positive patient experiences by showing empathy and providing caring service.
- Offer to counsel patients and field medical questions under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist.
- Take telephonic prescriptions and facilitate medication changes where allowed by state regulation.
- Deliver patient health care services, such as immunizations and point-of-care testing, while monitoring for and responding to adverse reactions.
- Provide coaching and mentoring to pharmacy team members to share best practices.
- Complete basic inventory activities, including cycle counts, returns-to-stock, and processing medication deliveries.
- Maintain compliance with all federal, state, and local laws, regulations, and ethical principles.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an ACPE accredited college or school of pharmacy.
- Valid intern or technician licensure, or be in the process of obtaining it.
- At least 1 year of related work experience in pharmacy, retail, medical, or customer service settings.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including nights and weekends.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Suite.
- Ability to become immunization certified.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills and active listening abilities.
- Ability to remain mobile and upright for extended periods and lift up to 20 lbs.
- Capability to concentrate on tasks, pivot quickly between responsibilities, and use math to solve problems.
