About the role#
As a Pharmacy Intern, you will apply your pharmacy school education to real-world practice under the direction of a preceptor. This role involves completing a comprehensive training roadmap to gain experience with pharmacy operations and prepare for future responsibilities as a pharmacist. You will work as part of a team to ensure prescriptions are filled safely and accurately while providing service to patients.
What you'll do#
- Follow company SOPs and pharmacy workflow procedures at workstations including production, pick-up, drive-thru, and drop-off.
- Assist the pharmacy team to ensure operations run smoothly and prescriptions are filled promptly.
- Create positive patient experiences by offering empathy and care during interactions.
- Offer to counsel patients, field medical questions, and collect medical history under the supervision of a pharmacist.
- Take telephonic prescriptions from prescribers and clarify medication details.
- Provide coaching and mentoring to pharmacy team members.
- Complete inventory activities such as cycle counts, returns, and putting away deliveries.
- Deliver patient health care services including immunizations and point-of-care testing, subject to state regulations and required training.
- Obtain Technician Immunizer status and monitor for adverse reactions.
- Comply with all federal, state, and local laws, professional standards, and ethical principles.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in an ACPE accredited college or school of pharmacy.
- Valid intern or technician licensure as required by the state.
- Ability to complete required training within designated timeframes.
- Regular and predictable attendance, including availability for nights and weekends.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to focus on tasks over extended periods.
- Proficiency in mathematical reasoning for prescription calculations.
- Effective communication skills and a commitment to customer service.
- Ability to solve problems and resolve challenging patient or colleague interactions.
