About the role#
As a Pharmacy Intern, you will apply your academic learning to real-world practice while preparing for a future role as a Pharmacist. You will work under the guidance of a preceptor to complete a comprehensive training roadmap. This role provides an overview of store, district, and regional pharmacy operations. You will support the pharmacy team to ensure operations run smoothly and patients receive safe, accurate, and prompt service.
What you'll do#
- Follow pharmacy workflow procedures at all workstations, including production, pick-up, drive-thru, and drop-off.
- Assist with prescription fulfillment and take telephonic prescriptions from prescribers.
- Provide caring service to patients, including fielding medical questions and offering counseling under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist.
- Deliver health care services such as immunizations and point-of-care testing where permitted by law.
- Educate patients on the importance of vaccines and monitor for or respond to adverse reactions.
- Provide in-the-moment coaching and mentoring to pharmacy team members.
- Complete basic inventory activities, such as processing medication deliveries, cycle counts, and returns.
- Maintain compliance with all federal, state, and local laws, as well as company policies regarding patient privacy and safety.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in or acceptance into an ACPE accredited college or school of pharmacy.
- Possession of, or progress toward, a valid intern or technician license.
- Ability to work in your home store and travel to other locations across the market as needed.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Suite.
- One or more years of related work experience in pharmacy, retail, medical, or customer service settings is preferred.
- Ability to become immunization certified.
