About the role#
As a Pharmacy Intern, you will apply your pharmacy school studies to real-world practice. You will work under the direction of a preceptor to complete a training roadmap that covers store, district, and regional operations. This role prepares you for future responsibilities as a pharmacist while you support the pharmacy team in delivering safe and accurate patient care.
What you'll do#
- Follow company SOPs and pharmacy workflow procedures at all workstations to ensure safe prescription fulfillment.
- Assist the pharmacy team with daily operations, including inventory tasks like cycle counts and processing deliveries.
- Provide empathetic care to patients, including counseling, fielding medical questions, and gathering medical history.
- Take telephonic prescriptions from prescribers and clarify medication details.
- Educate patients on the importance of vaccines and monitor for potential adverse reactions.
- Mentor other pharmacy team members and share best practices.
- Deliver additional health services such as point-of-care testing and immunizations where permitted by law.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in an ACPE accredited college or school of pharmacy.
- Valid intern or technician licensure, or be in the process of obtaining one.
- At least 1 year of experience in pharmacy, retail, medical, or customer service settings.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including nights and weekends.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Suite.
- Ability to become immunization certified.
- Strong communication skills, including active listening and the ability to solve math problems related to prescriptions.
- Physical ability to stand for extended periods, lift up to 20 lbs, and perform repetitive tasks like typing or reaching.
