About the role#
As a Pharmacy Intern, you will apply your classroom learning to real-world pharmacy operations. Under the guidance of a preceptor, you will complete a training roadmap designed to prepare you for future responsibilities as a pharmacist. You will gain experience across store, district, and regional operations while supporting the pharmacy team in delivering safe and accurate patient care.
What you'll do#
- Follow company standard operating procedures and pharmacy workflow protocols for prescription fulfillment.
- Provide caring service to patients at pick-up, drive-thru, and over the phone.
- Offer to counsel patients, field medical questions, and collect medical history information under pharmacist supervision.
- Take telephonic prescriptions from prescribers and clarify medication details.
- Provide coaching and mentoring to pharmacy team members.
- Complete inventory tasks, including cycle counts and processing medication deliveries.
- Deliver health services such as immunizations and point-of-care testing where permitted by law.
- Educate patients on vaccine importance and monitor for adverse reactions.
- Comply with all federal, state, and local laws regarding pharmacy practice and patient privacy.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in an ACPE accredited college or school of pharmacy.
- Valid intern or technician licensure, or be in the process of obtaining it.
- Ability to maintain regular attendance, including nights and weekends.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Suite.
- Ability to lift up to 20 lbs occasionally and 10 lbs frequently.
- Physical capability to remain mobile, reach overhead, and perform repetitive finger movements.
- Strong active listening and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to use math to solve problems related to prescription dispensing.
- Experience in a pharmacy, retail, medical, or customer service setting is preferred.
- Willingness to become immunization certified and work at various locations across the market.
