About the role#
As a Pharmacy Intern, you will apply your pharmacy school education to real-world practice. You will work under the direction of a preceptor to complete a training roadmap, gaining hands-on experience with store, district, and regional operations. This role focuses on developing your skills in preparation for a future Pharmacist position while supporting pharmacy teams in delivering consistent patient care.
What you'll do#
- Support pharmacy operations to ensure prescriptions are filled promptly, safely, and accurately.
- Follow pharmacy workflow procedures at all workstations, including production, pick-up, drive-thru, and drop-off.
- Provide caring service and contribute to a safe, inclusive environment for patients and colleagues.
- Offer to counsel patients, field medical questions, and collect medical history information under pharmacist supervision.
- Take telephonic prescriptions from prescribers and facilitate medication changes or clarifications.
- Provide in-the-moment coaching and mentoring to pharmacy team members.
- Complete inventory activities such as cycle counts, returns-to-stocks, and putting away deliveries.
- Deliver additional health care services, such as immunizations, where allowable by law.
- Educate patients on vaccines, monitor for adverse reactions, and document patient information.
- Comply with all federal, state, and local laws, professional standards, and ethical principles.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in an ACPE accredited college or school of pharmacy.
- Valid intern or technician licensure, or be in the process of obtaining it.
- Ability to maintain regular, predictable attendance, including nights and weekends.
- Proficiency in concentrating on tasks and pivoting quickly between responsibilities.
- Strong communication and active listening skills to interact with patients and staff.
- Ability to use math to solve problems related to prescription dispensing.
- Experience identifying challenging interactions and choosing the best course of action.
- Preferred: 1+ years of experience in pharmacy, retail, medical, or customer service.
- Preferred: Ability to become immunization certified and work across multiple store locations.
- Preferred: Proficiency in Microsoft Suite.
