About the role#
As a Thermal and Fluid Sciences Engineering intern, you will work on systems including IC engines, electric power, fuel, air, filtration, aftertreatment, batteries, and fuel cells. You will use simulation tools and physical testing to analyze product performance. Your work helps integrate systems that meet customer and regulatory requirements.
What you'll do#
- Analyze products using simulation and physical testing.
- Develop optimized solutions for engine, battery, and fuel cell systems.
- Apply knowledge of fluid mechanics, heat transfer, thermodynamics, filtration, and combustion to solve technical problems.
- Investigate product and system issues using fundamental physics to identify causal mechanisms.
- Recommend actions for problem resolution and system optimization.
- Collaborate with stakeholders and colleagues to advance project goals.
- Participate in resolving issues for complex components and subsystems.
- Use software tools including Fluent, GT-Suite, Boost, Converge, and MATLAB.
What you'll need#
- Full-time enrollment in an undergraduate or graduate engineering program at an accredited U.S. university.
- Majors considered include Computer, Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, Chemical, Industrial, Aerospace, Biomedical, and Environmental Engineering.
- A minimum GPA of 2.5 is preferred.
- Knowledge of fluid mechanics, heat transfer, thermodynamics, filtration, and combustion.
- Understanding of fundamental physics.
- Strong decision-making skills and a focus on customer needs.
- Ability to collaborate and communicate effectively with team members.
- Willingness to learn from others on the job.
- Must currently reside within the continental U.S.
- F-1 visa students must have approved CPT or OPT authorization.
Location & details#
- Location: Columbus, Indiana, United States.
- Modality: Hybrid.
- Commitment: 40 hours per week for a period ranging from 4 to 12 months.
- Compensation: Monthly salary of $4,100 to $5,000 for Bachelor's students, $6,000 for Master's students, and $7,300 for PhD students.
