About the role#
This internship position applies engineering principles and design practices to create optimized design concepts and mechanical specifications. You will consider factors like cost, weight, performance, reliability, and serviceability. The role involves communicating design capabilities to meet cross-functional requirements and working across disciplines to resolve product issues.
What you'll do#
- Investigate material and material processing problems, understand causal mechanisms, and recommend appropriate actions.
- Apply and support improvements for processes including material validation, quality auditing, and 7-step problem solving.
- Utilize tools for material characterization, testing, non-destructive testing, and statistical data analysis.
- Support experienced team members in negotiating with Quality, Supply Chain, and Engineering functions.
- Deliver testing and analysis results to support internal and external customer success.
- Apply and improve material specifications and standards.
- Contribute to problem resolution for moderately complex components, systems, and services.
- Coordinate work among engineers and technicians while contributing to team goals.
What you'll need#
- Current full-time enrollment in an undergraduate or graduate degree program at an accredited U.S. college or university.
- Majors considered: Computer, Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, Chemical, Industrial, Aerospace, or Biomedical Engineering.
- Minimum GPA of 2.5 preferred.
- Ability to commit to 40 hours per week.
- Willingness to learn from others on the job.
- Current residency within the continental U.S.
- Proficiency in mechanical design, system requirements engineering, and product problem solving.
- Strong collaboration and communication skills.

- Location: Columbus, Indiana.
- Term: Summer 2027.
- Modality: On-site.
- Commitment: 4 to 6 months minimum, up to 12 months maximum.
- Compensation: Paid internship.
