About the role#
This internship focuses on laboratory testing. You will design or specify test systems that allow for the operation of products in a laboratory environment. This work supports engineering evaluations to optimize product designs. Your responsibilities include the specification, design, implementation, validation, and support of test systems, including mechanical, electrical, plumbing, instrumentation, and data acquisition systems.
What you'll do#
- Investigate product test system and process problems.
- Understand causal mechanisms and recommend appropriate action.
- Document results with guidance from experienced team members.
- Apply and support process improvements, such as test system specification, design, and validation.
- Use tools like FMEA, 7-step problem solving, and process hazard analysis.
- Support experienced team members with input and negotiation involving lab customers, technicians, and suppliers.
- Deliver test system requirements, processes, and instructions to relevant stakeholders.
- Assist with decisions regarding component selection, calibration processes, and operating processes.
- Perform problem resolution for moderately complex components, products, and systems.
- Execute established work processes and engage with system improvements.
What you'll need#
- Full-time enrollment in an undergraduate or graduate degree program at an accredited U.S. college or university.
- Preferred minimum GPA of 2.5.
- Current residency within the continental U.S.
- A willingness to learn from others on the job.
- Knowledge of measurement science, laboratory equipment safety, and data quality.
- Familiarity with product function test system design and function-based product testing.
- Skills in product problem solving and project management.
- Core competencies including decision quality, driving results, collaboration, effective communication, and self-development.
- Pursuing a degree in Computer, Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, Chemical, Industrial, Aerospace, or Biomedical Engineering.
