About the role#
Crysler Animal Hospital offers externship and preceptorship opportunities for veterinary students. This program provides practical experience in a small animal practice to help prepare you for clinical work after graduation. You will work alongside our veterinary team to gain hands-on experience under professional supervision. Rotations typically last two to three weeks, though flexible scheduling is available from two to eight weeks to meet your college curriculum requirements. Your schedule will include a mix of day, evening, and weekend hours. A stipend of $250 per week is provided.
What you'll do#
- Gather patient histories and perform physical examinations.
- Develop diagnostic and therapeutic plans for medical cases.
- Scrub in to assist with surgeries.
- Provide wellness care and participate in daily patient care activities.
- Practice client communication and technical skills.
- Produce medical records and SOAPs within daily practice time limits.
- Work with an assigned mentor to meet your specific learning objectives.
- Receive a written performance evaluation at the end of your rotation.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an accredited DVM program.
- Authorization to work in the United States.
- Professional liability insurance (a certificate of coverage must be submitted).
- Ability to maintain professional behavior and dress standards.
- Familiarity with the Veterinary Practice Act regarding the scope of student duties.
