About the role#
As a Transportation Intern, you will support the Transportation Planning & Design department in Walnut Creek. You will report to a project manager and assist with various civil engineering tasks, project research, and preliminary design calculations. This role involves both office work and site visits, providing a hands-on look at civil engineering projects.
What you'll do#
- Prepare reports, cost estimates, specifications, and construction material quantities.
- Use computer-aided design and engineering software to draft working plans and detailed drawings.
- Analyze and revise maps, charts, exhibits, diagrams, as-built maintenance records, and project layouts.
- Assist with project documentation and contribute to the delivery of project work.
- Participate in construction support tasks, including responding to submittals and RFIs.
- Visit project sites as part of the design team.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in an ABET accredited university working toward a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering.
- Completion of core civil engineering coursework and current enrollment in upper-level division classes.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ability to work in a hybrid environment, including occasional exposure to field conditions such as heat, noise, and varying weather.
- Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 35 lbs, as well as perform physical tasks like standing, walking, and reaching.
