About the role#
This internship supports the policy and systems change advocacy work at CommonBond Communities. You will gain experience in the legislative process, coalition organizing, and stakeholder engagement at the local, state, and federal levels. The role focuses on influencing funding, regulatory, and administrative systems related to affordable housing and supportive services.
What you'll do#
- Support the Policy and systems change committee and assist with monthly employee advocacy meetings.
- Draft internal communications to keep staff informed on key policy issues and organizational positions.
- Monitor coalition activities and attend meetings to prepare briefing materials for staff.
- Maintain and update policy trackers, lawmaker databases, and property lists.
- Conduct research on lawmakers and prepare materials for lawmaker communications and visits.
- Help prepare staff for public hearings and advocacy meetings.
- Create talking points, meeting summaries, and briefing materials on priority legislation.
What you'll need#
- A strong interest in affordable housing, social justice, and policy advocacy.
- Coursework or experience in public policy, political science, social work, urban planning, nonprofit management, or related fields.
- Excellent research, writing, and communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
- The ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Access to the internet and the ability to work remotely.
Location & details#
- This is a paid, part-time, remote position.
- The term is rolling and concludes in June 2026.
- Most meetings occur between 8:00 AM and 5:00 PM, Monday through Friday.
