About the role#
Clean Harbors is seeking a Lab Chemist Intern for our Sawyer, North Dakota landfill. This internship provides hands-on experience in environmental services during the summer of 2027. You will work alongside experienced professionals, observe daily operations, and contribute to projects that support our safety and environmental goals.
What you'll do#
- Prioritize health and safety by following all safe work practices and OSHA regulations.
- Shadow supervisors and technicians to learn laboratory operations.
- Assist with the analysis of metals, including mercury, and perform wet chemistry testing for Chlorine and Fluoride.
- Gain experience with analytical instrumentation including GC, IC, and ICP.
- Manage waste generated during analytical procedures.
- Review, update, and validate data and documentation for accuracy.
- Complete other tasks as assigned by management.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a degree program for biology, chemistry, or a related field.
- Previous experience working in a laboratory setting.
- Ability to document, record, and analyze technical information.
- Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office or similar technical tools.
- Knowledge of wastewater, TOC, ICP instrumentation, flashpoint, or Calorimetry is a plus.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a professional team environment.
- Physical ability to lift up to 50lbs, climb stairs, bend, stoop, and stand for long periods.

- This is a full-time, on-site internship based in Sawyer, North Dakota.
- The program runs through the summer of 2027, with start dates available on May 17th or May 24th.
- This position is paid.
