About the role#
Clean Harbors is seeking a Lab Chemist Intern for our Buttonwillow, California facility. This full-time summer internship focuses on hands-on experience within our environmental services operations. You will work alongside experienced professionals to develop practical skills while supporting real business projects. Safety is our primary focus, and you will be expected to maintain a safe working environment at all times.
What you'll do#
- Comply with all safe work practices, policies, and processes.
- Learn to analyze various metals, including mercury.
- Conduct wet chemistry testing, such as Chlorine and Fluoride analysis.
- Use analytical laboratory instruments including GC, IC, and ICP.
- Shadow supervisors and technicians during daily operations.
- Manage waste generated from analytical procedures.
- Perform document control, data analysis, and validation of records.
- Maintain compliance with all applicable OSHA regulations.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing a degree in chemistry, biology, or a related field at an accredited institution.
- Previous experience working in a laboratory setting.
- Ability to document, record, and analyze data effectively.
- Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office or similar technical tools.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a professional team environment.
- Physical ability to lift up to 50lbs, climb stairs, bend, stoop, and stand for long hours.
- Knowledge of wastewater, TOC, and ICP instrumentation is helpful, as is familiarity with flashpoint and Calorimetry.
