About the role#
This is a full-time, paid 4-month internship starting in September 2026. You will join the Link Engineering team within the Optical Networks R&D organization, which focuses on photonic hardware, software, and system architecture. This role involves developing tools that predict optical system performance and determine optimal equipment provisioning for networks ranging from subsea cables to data center interconnects.
What you'll do#
- Develop software tools to assist in the design of optical networks.
- Work to maximize data transmission capacity across various network types.
- Optimize systems to increase the number of terabits per second transported over specified distances.
- Contribute to the development of next-generation optical transmission equipment used in inter-continental communication networks.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in a Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, or Physics program.
- Strong programming skills in Python.
- Strong SQL skills.
- Understanding of data modeling concepts, such as Star Schema and Snowflake Schema.
- Understanding of containerization concepts.
- Completion of a Communication Theory course is considered an asset.

- Compensation: $25 to $34 per hour, including access to the Employee Assistance Program, company-paid holidays, paid sick leave, and vacation pay.
