Optical Platform Systems Intern

About the role#

As an Optical Platform Systems Intern, you will join the multi-disciplinary Platform Systems Architecture team to contribute to the development of Ciena's Converged Packet Optical product family. This position involves working alongside experienced mentors to define and validate new products and features while gaining exposure to industry best practices in optical system design and testing.

What you'll do#

• Support architecture, hardware, software, and product verification teams throughout the development and testing lifecycle of new products.
• Contribute to the creation of design specifications, test plans, and technical reports.
• Collaborate with senior engineers and cross-functional teams to troubleshoot technical issues and optimize overall system performance.
• Participate in research and development activities to explore new concepts and technologies within optical communications.

What you'll need#

• Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Physics, or a related field.
• A basic understanding of optical communication principles, fiber optics, and optical components such as lasers, detectors, and modulators.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with high attention to detail.
• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment while managing multiple projects.
• Proficiency in Excel and experience with a scripting language like Python are considered assets.

• Term: Fall 2026 (4 months).
• Modality: On-site.
• Employment type: Full-time, paid internship.
• Compensation: $25.00 - $34.00 per hour, including access to the Employee Assistance Program, company-paid holidays, sick leave, and vacation pay.
