About the role#
This internship position focuses on hypersonic research within our modeling and simulation group. You will work on projects related to your field of study, such as Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering. The program lasts 8 to 10 weeks during the summer, typically running from mid-May to August. You will have a mentor and a technical manager to guide your work throughout the summer.
What you'll do#
- Use in-house and commercial simulation tools to model vehicle responses in high-speed, high-temperature environments.
- Execute and post-process simulation results.
- Prepare technical briefs and present your findings to the team.
- Perform direct analysis and development tasks to support ongoing modeling and simulation efforts.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an undergraduate or graduate degree program in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline.
- US citizenship is required due to contract restrictions.
- Ability to work on-site in Huntsville, Alabama for the duration of the summer.
- Preference for candidates with a late-undergraduate or graduate academic background.
- Proficiency in Python, Fortran, or C/C++ is desired.
- Knowledge or interest in compressible flow, heat transfer, thermodynamics, numerical methods, finite element analysis (FEA), and computational fluid dynamics (CFD) is preferred.
