Finance Intern

About the role#

The Finance Intern supports the Accounting & Finance team with day-to-day operations and special projects across Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, general ledger, and reporting. This role provides hands-on experience with retail accounting workflows, including invoice processing, reconciliations, and month-end close support. You will work with the team to ensure accuracy and timeliness while learning financial practices in a retail environment.

What you'll do#

• Support the Cavender’s Culture and drive the company Mission, Vision, and Values.
• Assist with Accounts Payable workflows, including invoice entry, 2/3-way PO matching, coding, and vendor statement reconciliations.
• Assist with Accounts Receivable tasks such as cash application, deposit support, and researching chargebacks or variances.
• Prepare and update account reconciliations for areas like bank, prepaid, and accruals.
• Help with month-end close tasks, including journal entry preparation, schedules, and flux analysis.
• Pull, clean, and analyze data for weekly and monthly reports on sales, inventory, and expense trends.
• Maintain documentation and standard operating procedures.
• Partner with team members to troubleshoot issues and respond to internal requests.
• Support internal and external audits by gathering samples and preparing backup documentation.

What you'll need#

• Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• Completed coursework in Financial Accounting and Excel or analytics.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including sorting, filtering, formulas, and pivot tables.
• Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple deadlines.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills with a customer-service mindset.
• Ability to work independently and within a team.

• Location: Tyler, Texas (On-site at the Home Office).
• Term: Winter 2026.
• Status: Full-time, paid internship.
