Finance Intern

About the role#

The Finance Intern supports the Accounting and Finance team with daily operations and special projects. This role provides hands-on experience with retail accounting workflows, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger tasks, and financial reporting. You will work closely with the team to ensure accuracy and efficiency while gaining exposure to month-end processes and data analysis.

What you'll do#

• Support the Cavender’s culture and drive the company mission, vision, and values.
• Assist with accounts payable workflows, including invoice entry, 2/3-way PO matching, coding, and vendor statement reconciliations.
• Assist with accounts receivable tasks such as cash application, deposit support, and researching chargebacks or variances.
• Prepare and update account reconciliations, including bank, prepaid, and accrual accounts.
• Support month-end close tasks, including journal entry preparation, schedules, and flux analysis.
• Pull, clean, and analyze data for weekly and monthly reports regarding sales, inventory, and expense trends.
• Maintain documentation and standard operating procedures for the finance department.
• Partner with team members to troubleshoot issues and respond to internal requests.
• Support internal and external audits by gathering samples and preparing backup documentation.

What you'll need#

• Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• Completed coursework in Financial Accounting and Excel or analytics.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, specifically with sorting, filtering, formulas, and pivot tables.
• Strong attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills and a customer-service mindset.
• Ability to be organized and reliable.
