2027 Summer Corporate Intern - Procurement

About the role#

Caterpillar's Procurement team manages the purchasing of materials for over 300 product lines, including construction and mining equipment, engines, and industrial turbines, as well as essential business operations supplies. As an intern, you will contribute to global sourcing strategies, interface with product supply and category teams, and analyze data to support supplier negotiations. You will work to ensure that quality, cost, and delivery objectives are met while gaining exposure to various procurement functions.

What you'll do#

This is a 12-week, full-time (40 hours per week) internship. You may be assigned to roles such as Category Buyer, Facility Procurement Professional, Supplier Development Engineer, or Procurement Professional. Your responsibilities will include:

• Developing and implementing global sourcing strategies.
• Managing policies, agreements, and supplier relationships.
• Analyzing data to support supplier negotiations.
• Interfacing with product supply and category teams to drive cost savings.
• Leading project management efforts for process improvements.

What you'll need#

• Current full-time enrollment in a 4-year university in Business Administration, Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Supply Chain Management.
• Completion of at least 30 semester hours prior to the start of the internship.
• A minimum cumulative GPA of 2.8/4.0.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a diverse, inclusive environment.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking capabilities.
• Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.

Location & details#

• Term: Summer 2027.
• Modality: On-site (5 days per week).
• Locations: Peoria, Mossville, East Peoria, Morton, Illinois; Irving and Victoria, Texas.
• Relocation: Candidates must be able to relocate to the assigned work location and provide their own daily transportation.
• Compensation: This is a paid internship. Please note that sponsorship is not available for this position.
