About the role#
This internship supports the right-of-way maintenance program at Carroll Electric Cooperative Corporation. You will work outdoors as part of a crew to clear vegetation and maintain access to electric facilities. This position offers practical experience in utility operations and safe work practices while helping to keep electric lines clear and reliable.
What you'll do#
- Clear brush, trees, and vines from electric utility rights-of-way.
- Assist with dragging, piling, and chipping woody debris.
- Operate hand tools and powered equipment including chainsaws, brush grinders, and tractors.
- Inspect tools and equipment before use and keep work areas clean.
- Identify and communicate hazards like uneven terrain, traffic, overhead lines, and changing weather.
- Follow safety procedures and instructions from crew leaders.
- Assist with loading and transporting materials.
- Occasionally act as a helper or learner with line technicians.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in or recent graduation from high school, college, or a technical program.
- Ability to perform physical work outdoors in hot, cold, wet, or dusty conditions.
- Capability to walk on rough terrain and lift or carry heavy tools and brush.
- Dependability and a strong commitment to safety.
- Willingness to learn how to operate powered equipment and work at height.
- Good communication skills and situational awareness.
- Previous experience in landscaping, forestry, farming, or construction is helpful but not required.
Location & details#
- Location: Lowell, Arkansas.
- Schedule: Monday through Friday, with hours typically ranging between 6:00 am and 4:30 pm.
- Status: Part-time, paid internship.
- Total hours: Interns are limited to 1,000 total work hours.
