About the role#
This internship supports the right-of-way maintenance program at Carroll Electric Cooperative Corporation. You will work outdoors to clear brush, trees, and vines from around electric lines and facilities. This position offers hands-on experience with vegetation management, utility operations, and safe work practices. You will work as part of a crew to keep electric lines accessible and reduce vegetation-related outages.
What you'll do#
- Clear vegetation from electric utility rights-of-way.
- Assist with maintaining access to poles, equipment, and lines.
- Drag, pile, chip, and handle woody debris.
- Use hand tools and powered equipment like chainsaws.
- Train to operate brush grinders, tractors, and trimmers.
- Inspect, clean, and maintain tools and equipment.
- Load, unload, and transport materials.
- Identify hazards such as uneven terrain, traffic, overhead lines, and changing weather.
- Follow safety procedures and communicate concerns to crew leaders.
- Work as a helper with line technicians as needed.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in or recent graduation from high school, college, or a technical program.
- Ability to perform physical work outdoors in hot, cold, wet, or dusty conditions.
- Capability to walk and work on rough terrain.
- Ability to safely lift, carry, and handle tools and brush.
- Commitment to safety and working well within a crew.
- Reliability and the ability to report to work on time.
- Comfort using tools and learning to operate powered equipment.
- Previous experience in landscaping, farming, forestry, or construction is helpful but not required.
Location & details#
- Location: Gravette, Arkansas.
- Schedule: Monday through Friday, with shifts typically falling between 6:00 am and 4:30 pm.
- Status: Paid, full-time, on-site internship.
- Term: Rolling, with a limit of 1,000 total work hours.
