About the role#
This co-op provides hands-on experience in Operations Leadership and Maintenance and Reliability Engineering within an underground salt mine. You will work in either Cleveland, Ohio, or Lansing, New York, as part of the Cargill Specialized Portfolio. This role is designed to expose you to both the technical and management sides of the mining industry while you develop your professional career path.
What you'll do#
- Lead production or maintenance employees, project teams, or contractors in an underground environment.
- Gain experience in mining techniques, including surveying, mapping, room and pillar mining, and mineral processing.
- Supervise operators and daily production activities while learning to manage MSHA federal regulations and compliance.
- Develop business cases, manage budgets, and lead projects related to process optimization, safety, and infrastructure.
- Collaborate with electrical engineers and electricians on power infrastructure, programming, and control systems.
- Perform physical tasks such as bending, stooping, and lifting, while working in environments that may include heat, cold, or salt dust.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing a bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial, Civil, Chemical, or Environmental Engineering, or Business Administration or Marketing.
- Ability to complete a 7 to 8-month co-op starting in May 2027.
- Geographic flexibility and willingness to relocate to Cleveland, OH, or Lansing, NY.
- High degree of initiative and resourcefulness.
- Proven ability to work effectively with people from diverse backgrounds.
- Right to work in the U.S. without reliance on a student or third-party sponsored visa.
