Operations Internship

About the role#

As an Operations Intern at Canlan Sports, you will work under the guidance of the Operations Manager or General Manager. This role provides hands-on exposure to the daily functions of a large recreational sports complex. You will gain practical experience in facility maintenance, ice management, and equipment care to build a foundation for a career in operations management.

What you'll do#

• Perform maintenance tasks in compliance with local building and fire codes.
• Manage ice maintenance, including Engo and edger operation, ice depth measurement, chopping, leveling, and painting.
• Execute repairs on facility fixtures, such as minor electrical, plumbing, drywall, painting, dasher board systems, arena glass, and hockey nets.
• Maintain cleanliness and safety of grounds, including entrances, parking lots, grass cutting, and snow or debris removal.
• Perform equipment maintenance like safety checks, waxing, blade changes, greasing, and oil changes.
• Monitor the ice plant, including checking oil charges, brine or glycol levels, and testing for ammonia leaks.
• Use Ameresco Asset Planner to manage facility data and maintain accurate records for utility readings and safety checklists.

What you'll need#

• A valid driver’s license.
• Flexibility to work evenings and weekends.
• An approachable, team-oriented, and proactive mindset.
• Strong communication skills.
• Mechanical aptitude is preferred.
• Prior trade or janitorial experience is an advantage.
• A high school education or equivalent is preferred.
