About the role#
This internship provides students with hands-on experience working within a Security Operations Center (SOC). You will move from theoretical knowledge to practical application by working with the technology, data, and processes that define the analyst role. This program is designed to act as an on-ramp for those seeking a pathway into cybersecurity. You will receive guided coaching alongside independently driven, hands-on activities.
What you'll do#
- Complete the C3 SOC Analyst training program.
- Learn the fundamentals of Security Orchestration, Automation and Response (SOAR), threat detection, and incident response (IR).
- Monitor, detect, and respond to security events by reviewing logs and alerts.
- Provide support when analysis confirms actionable incidents.
- Conduct network forensics, log analysis, and malware triage to support threat hunting and investigations.
- Assist with auditing client security tool policies and configurations.
- Help streamline and improve operational tools, rule sets, processes, and documentation related to SOC workflows.
- Test, analyze, and evaluate existing or proposed SOC team tools, systems, and processes.
- Perform threat intelligence research regarding newly identified vulnerabilities.
- Develop, document, and correlate recommendations for cybersecurity incidents and alert tickets.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in a Computer Science or Cybersecurity degree program at an LSU or LSU satellite campus.
- Experience working with Windows, macOS, or Linux operating systems.
- A basic understanding of networks and technical environments, including conceptual knowledge of administering or defending servers and workstations.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, time management, and organizational skills.
- Effective verbal and written communication abilities.
- The ability to work in a collaborative team, multitask, and prioritize during high-stakes situations.
- Comfort using or learning tools like Microsoft Teams and Office.
- The ability to follow defined processes while working independently with minimal direction.
- Bonus: Experience with security tools in a work or lab environment or completed self-study training via platforms such as LetsDefend, TryHackMe, Hack The Box, RangeForce, Udemy, Cybrary, or Coursera.

- Term: Winter 2027 (January 11, 2027 - May 7, 2027).
- Modality: Remote (Louisiana).
- Compensation: Paid ($11 - $14 hourly, depending on experience).
- Commitment: 16-38 hours per week.
