About the role#
As an Engineering Intern, you will support our engineering and production teams in a food manufacturing environment. You will spend your time on the production floor to observe equipment, product flow, and manufacturing processes. Your work will focus on collecting data to identify opportunities that improve safety, quality, efficiency, and throughput while reducing waste.
What you'll do#
- Perform time studies and collect process data like cycle times, downtime, and equipment utilization.
- Use Excel to analyze data and identify bottlenecks or recurring losses.
- Assist with root cause analysis using tools such as 5 Whys, Pareto analysis, and process mapping.
- Collaborate with the Engineering, Production, Maintenance, Quality, and Food Safety departments to evaluate process issues.
- Support process trials and document whether changes lead to measurable improvements.
- Create and update project summaries, standard work documents, checklists, and presentations.
- Manage assigned improvement projects from the initial problem identification through to final verification.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an accredited degree program for Mechanical, Chemical, Electrical, Industrial, or Manufacturing Engineering.
- A basic understanding of manufacturing processes, data analysis, and continuous improvement concepts.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, with a strong focus on Excel.
- Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to maintain regular and reliable attendance.

- Location: Mount Jackson, Virginia.
- Modality: On-site.
- Employment type: Full-time, seasonal internship.
- Compensation: 22 USD per hour.
- Work environment: You will work in both an office and a production floor setting. The production area involves exposure to wet or humid conditions, extreme heat or cold, moving mechanical parts, and loud noise. You will be required to wear personal protective equipment. Physical tasks include standing, walking, reaching, lifting up to 25 pounds, and climbing or crouching.
