About the role#
Blount Fine Foods offers an internship program designed to connect classroom concepts with real-world applications in food manufacturing. As a Process & Mechanical Engineer Intern, you will work alongside engineering personnel to improve equipment, products, and packaging quality. This role provides project support for a multi-year facility expansion and offers opportunities for professional development, feedback, and networking.
What you'll do#
- Collaborate with process and design teams to improve equipment and manufacturing workflows.
- Conduct a thermal efficiency audit and present findings to management.
- Spend time on the production floor to monitor daily operations and ensure process efficiency.
- Gather and analyze business data to create performance metrics, dashboards, and control charts.
- Assist with the creation of asset lists and critical spares programs.
- Implement quality control methods, including statistical process controls (SPC).
- Inspect and test equipment and processes while maintaining accurate documentation.
- Work with the Safety department on job safety analysis (JSAs).
- Act as a liaison between departments and business partners to resolve technical issues.
- Adhere to all GMPs, SOPs, and allergen control programs to maintain food safety standards.
What you'll need#
- Current degree candidacy in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD and Microsoft Office.
- Above average mathematics and statistics skills, including familiarity with control charts.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work in a team environment and communicate effectively.
- Self-motivated approach with a willingness to learn.
- Lean Six Sigma certification, or experience with MiniTab, Smart Draw, and Simscale, are considered a plus.
