About the role#
Best Care Pet Hospital offers externship and preceptorship opportunities for veterinary students. This program provides practical experience in a small animal practice setting to help you prepare for your career after graduation. You will work alongside our veterinary team to practice clinical skills under supervision. The program is flexible, with rotations typically lasting two to three weeks, though they can range from two to eight weeks depending on your curriculum requirements.
What you'll do#
Externs participate in the daily operations of our practice. You will work with a mentor doctor to manage patient care, which includes the following tasks:
- Gather patient histories and perform physical examinations.
- Develop diagnostic and therapeutic plans.
- Scrub in to surgery and assist in medical case management.
- Provide wellness care to patients.
- Develop client communication skills.
- Produce medical records such as SOAPs.
- Polish your technical skills.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an accredited DVM program.
- Authorization to work in the United States.
- Proof of professional liability insurance.

- Schedule: Includes days, evenings, and weekends.
- Term: Rolling.
- Compensation: A stipend of $250 per week is provided for this on-site program.
