About the role#
As an Assurance Intern, you will start your career by applying your academic background to real client engagements. You will work alongside experienced team members who provide coaching and direction. This role offers a hands-on perspective on our firm practices and helps you build professional relationships.
What you'll do#
- Participate in a structured training program to learn Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and Generally Accepted Auditing Standards.
- Become familiar with BDO audit methodology to assist with various stages of the audit process.
- Provide support functions to audit staff during engagements.
- Communicate with client customers, creditors, banks, and related parties regarding audit issues.
- Prepare and document work in working papers using firm tools and templates.
- Contribute ideas to audit teams and complete an assigned research project to present to a panel of professionals.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in a Bachelors or Masters program in Accounting is required.
- You must be actively pursuing school credits to become a CPA.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, is required.
- A Masters degree in Accounting and previous leadership experience are preferred.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a team setting.

- This is a full-time, paid internship located in Norfolk, Virginia.
- The program takes place during Summer 2027.
- This position is on-site.
