    About the role#

    As an Embedded Software Engineering Intern at AV, you will work with experienced engineers to design, develop, and test software for unmanned aerial and robotic systems. You will gain hands-on experience writing software for microcontrollers, processors, and hardware used in flight systems, sensors, and payloads. This 12-week program involves the full development lifecycle, from initial prototyping and integration to final testing and validation.

    What you'll do#

    • Write and test embedded software for autopilots, sensors, radios, and onboard components.
    • Implement software in C or C++ for real-time and bare-metal systems.
    • Integrate embedded software with hardware and perform debugging using lab tools.
    • Collaborate with electrical, systems, and mechanical teams to ensure cohesive development.
    • Participate in peer reviews, documentation, and configuration management.
    • Contribute to lab and field testing of embedded systems for real-world mission scenarios.
    • Assist in creating prototypes and proof-of-concept demonstrations.

    What you'll need#

    • Current pursuit of a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
    • Minimum 3.0 GPA.
    • Knowledge of embedded systems, microcontrollers, and low-level concepts like memory management, interrupts, or device drivers.
    • Familiarity with C, C++, or Python.
    • Exposure to hardware communication protocols such as I2C, SPI, UART, or CAN.
    • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.
    • Effective verbal and written communication.
    • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
    • Preferred: Hands-on experience with platforms like STM32, Arduino, or Raspberry Pi, familiarity with RTOS environments, exposure to embedded Linux, and experience with lab equipment like oscilloscopes and logic analyzers.

    • Term: Summer 2027.
    • Modality: On-site, full-time.
    • Compensation: This is a paid internship.
    • Compliance: This position requires access to information subject to ITAR and EAR regulations. Applicants must qualify as a U.S. person (U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident, or protected individual).
