About the role#
The Trailer Mechanic Intern role is a hands-on learning opportunity for students interested in automotive, diesel, welding, fabrication, or skilled trades careers. You will work alongside experienced technicians to repair, maintain, and improve trailers, box trucks, and other fleet equipment. This position provides exposure to welding, vehicle maintenance, painting, inspections, and equipment installations in a safe environment.
What you'll do#
- Follow all company safety procedures and maintain a safe work environment.
- Assist technicians with inspections, maintenance, and repairs on trailers, box trucks, and fleet equipment.
- Prepare vehicles and trailers for painting and vinyl installation through cleaning, sanding, masking, and finishing activities.
- Help with trailer and truck equipment installations, such as liftgates, storage systems, and other accessories.
- Learn basic welding, fabrication, body repair, and mechanical repair techniques.
- Perform routine shop tasks, including organizing tools, maintaining equipment, and keeping work areas clean.
- Support parts inventory activities by helping locate, organize, and stage parts.
- Participate in quality inspections to ensure completed work meets company standards.
- Communicate with supervisors and team members regarding assigned projects.
- Complete additional shop and maintenance projects as assigned.
What you'll need#
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- Currently enrolled in a high school work-to-school, vocational, or technical education program.
- Interest in automotive repair, diesel technology, welding, manufacturing, transportation, or skilled trades careers.
- Previous shop, automotive, agricultural, welding, or technical coursework is preferred.
- Willingness to learn new skills and take direction from experienced team members.
- Ability to safely use hand tools and equipment after appropriate training.
- Strong attendance, reliability, and work ethic.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality work.
- Effective communication skills and a positive attitude.
