About the role#
The Family Caregiver Support Intern will join our team in Summit, New Jersey, for a 10-week program during the summer of 2027. This is a full-time, paid position requiring 37.5 hours per week on-site. You will play a key role in maintaining a supportive and peaceful environment for families visiting the center.
What you'll do#
- Welcome and engage family caregivers, offering a listening ear and compassionate support.
- Help families navigate the healthcare system with empathy.
- Connect caregivers to hospital services and community resources.
- Conduct outreach to patient care units and waiting areas to introduce available support.
- Assist in planning caregiver support groups, educational programs, and community outreach initiatives.
- Provide emotional support to families during difficult times.
- Participate in Palliative Care and Spiritual Care events and activities.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment as a full-time student in an accredited undergraduate or graduate program, with good academic standing.
- Preferred majors include Nursing, Psychology, Public Health, or other related fields.
- Strong active listening, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated professionalism, empathy, and compassion.
- Comfort supporting individuals and families facing grief, illness, and other challenging life circumstances.
- Ability to commit to 37.5 hours per week for the duration of the 10-week internship.
