As a Co-op Data Analyst, you will join the ATCO Cloud Platforms, Tools & Automation Team to support the end-to-end data lifecycle. You will work with the Data & Analytics team to turn business questions into trusted, governed datasets and insights using the Databricks lakehouse environment. This role blends data analysis, light data engineering, and stakeholder enablement.
What you'll do#
- Partner with analysts, engineers, and business stakeholders to translate data questions into clear analysis requirements and deliverables.
- Explore and analyze curated datasets in Databricks using SQL and notebooks to generate insights and validate business assumptions.
- Support data pipeline and product development through documentation, data profiling, and validation of completeness, duplicates, and outliers.
- Maintain data quality practices by implementing checks, logging results, and supporting issue triage.
- Create and maintain documentation, including data definitions, lineage notes, business logic, and usage guidance.
- Support dashboard and reporting consumption by assisting users with dataset access and validating outputs against business rules.
- Assist with governed access enablement by following established processes like Unity Catalog permissions.
- Contribute to platform adoption by creating how-to guides, starter queries, and analysis templates.
- Practice safe data handling in accordance with company policies and platform guardrails.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in a co-op or internship program at a recognized Canadian university.
- Currently pursuing a post-secondary degree in Data Analytics, Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, or a related field.
- A strong foundation in SQL and an interest in modern data platforms and analytics engineering.
- Experience with Python and/or analytical tools such as Excel, Power BI, or Tableau.
- A basic understanding of data concepts, including data quality, modeling, ETL/ELT, and the purpose of data lakes or warehouses.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to communicate technical findings in business-friendly language.
- Experience with version control (e.g., Git) and documentation tools (e.g., wikis) is an asset.
- Familiarity with Databricks, Apache Spark, or cloud data services is an asset.

- Location: Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.
- Duration: 12 months.
- Start Date: September 2026.
- Work Modality: On-site.
- Compensation: Paid position ($24 - $36/hour based on experience) with salary increases every semester and 6% vacation pay.
